At a high-profile event dubbed The Drop Best Buy outlined a sweeping upgrade to its retail-media business. The retailer positions itself as a bridge between in-store shopping and the digital moments when consumers first encounter a gadget, promising brands a full-funnel view from inspiration to purchase.
Lisa Valentino, Best Buy’s chief ads and media officer, emphasized that the company’s 220 million customer relationships provide a “real-purchase-behavior-first” lens for advertisers. The announcements focus on five pillars: a connected-TV (CTV) ecosystem, new measurement capabilities, a creator marketplace, upgraded physical-store experiences, and an independent research study demonstrating impact.
Connected-TV ecosystem and strategic partnerships
The centerpiece of the rollout is Best Buy CTV a dedicated ad inventory that sits across premium streaming services. By deepening its alliance with Amazon Fire TV Best Buy will surface 30-second spots on Insignia televisions that run the Fire TV OS. In parallel, a first-of-its-kind bundle with LG and Roku adds exclusive home-screen placements, audience targeting powered by device-ownership data, and refresh-cycle insights.
Advertisers can now buy slots on FAST (free ad-supported streaming) channels and on-demand apps that dominate the living-room screen. Best Buy says the partnership unlocks access to “some of the most valuable screens in the home,” enabling brands to reach shoppers precisely when they are evaluating the next tech purchase.
Multi-touch attribution and incrementality testing
To translate exposure into actionable intelligence, Best Buy unveiled a multi-touch attribution (MTA) platform that blends on-site, off-site, paid search, social, influencer, affiliate and in-store signals. The model, rolled out on September 30, offers upper-, mid- and lower-funnel data, allowing marketers to see how each touchpoint contributes to the final sale.
Coupled with an upgraded incrementality testing suite, advertisers can now differentiate between media that merely assisted a purchase and media that actually caused it. Artificial-intelligence recommendations will suggest budget shifts for upcoming campaigns, leveraging a decade of consumer purchase history to spot moments when shoppers are most likely to be “in-market.”
Best Buy Creators: trusted voices meet commerce
The retailer’s creator arm, Best Buy Creators expands the existing Best Buy Studios network with established tech reviewers, the iconic “Blue Shirts,” and a roster of independent influencers. This marketplace gives brands access to voices consumers already rely on for gadget advice.
Content produced through this program can be pushed across social feeds, streaming platforms and the retailer’s own commerce sites, with built-in measurement that ties video views directly to sales outcomes. The fusion of creative production and performance metrics aims to turn influencer moments into quantifiable revenue drivers.
Store-level activation and new experiential categories
Physical locations remain a cornerstone of Best Buy’s strategy. The company is converting stores into “activation hubs” where shoppers can try out emerging technologies hands-on. New immersive brand environments, takeover zones, and the introduction of categories such as collectibles, physical media and 3D-printing are designed to draw fresh audiences into the brick-and-mortar ecosystem.
These upgrades support a dual-purpose model: while digital touchpoints capture early interest, the stores provide the tactile proof points that often seal the deal, reinforcing the retailer’s claim of a truly omnichannel experience.
Circana research confirms outsized impact
An independent study by Circana evaluated Best Buy Ads against national media investments across leading consumer-electronics and appliance brands. The findings claim a 79 % higher return on ad spend (ROAS) for Best Buy versus all other U.S. media, with the network contributing roughly 10 % of measured brand-equity value.
Notably, the model reports that nearly 16 % of media-driven sales attributed to Best Buy Ads occurred at competing retailers, suggesting a “halo effect” where Best Buy’s advertising lifts Although the methodology details are not public, the retailer presents the data as proof that its media can drive incremental sales beyond its own shelves.
Collectively, these five announcements illustrate Best Buy’s ambition to become a full-funnel, technology-focused media platform, blending CTV reach, granular measurement, creator credibility, in-store immersion and independent validation.
