Jalisco Tech Hub Act 2.0: A New Era of Industrial Collaboration

The state of Jalisco is making significant strides in solidifying its position as a technology innovation hub in Latin America. The recent upgrade of the Jalisco Tech Hub Act to a comprehensive industrial policy marks a pivotal moment in the region’s tech ecosystem. This transformation, announced during the XXXI International High Technology Congress (CIAT) underscores the state’s commitment to fostering collaboration between the government and the private sector.

The new policy, known as the Jalisco Tech Hub Act 2.0 is designed to enhance the competitiveness of Jalisco’s tech ecosystem and establish it as a global leader in high technology. The initiative is spearheaded by the Cámara Nacional de la Industria Electrónica, Telecomunicaciones y Tecnologías de la Información (CANIETI) Occidente which will assume the role of the Secretaría Técnica of the new Council of Innovation and High Technology.

Industry-Led Innovation: A Paradigm Shift

The signing of the agreement between Marco Estrella president of CANIETI Occidente, and Mauro Garza coordinator of Strategic Growth and Economic Development for the state, signifies a major shift in the governance of Jalisco’s tech policies. The new model places the private sector at the helm of policy-making, ensuring that the industry’s needs and insights drive the state’s technological advancements.

“This is more than just an agreement; it’s a strategic alliance that empowers the industry to lead the way in shaping public policies,” stated Estrella. The industry’s proactive role is expected to attract high-value investments, develop specialized talent, and accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge technologies. Key sectors such as semiconductorsartificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing are set to benefit from this collaborative approach.

Global Outreach: Promoting Jalisco on the World Stage

To showcase the new policy and attract international investments, Jalisco is planning a promotional tour to San Francisco, California in October. This initiative aims to present the Jalisco Tech Hub Act 2.0 to major tech companies and highlight the state’s commitment to becoming a global tech leader. The tour is expected to send a strong message about Jalisco’s readiness to collaborate and innovate on a global scale.

“This tour is an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment and the concrete steps we are taking to foster a thriving tech ecosystem,” commented Estrella. The event will provide a platform for Jalisco to engage with potential investors and partners, further solidifying its position in the global tech landscape.

Challenges and Opportunities in the Tech Sector

The tech sector is facing significant challenges, including shifting supply chains and geopolitical tensions. However, Jalisco is well-positioned to navigate these challenges and capitalize on emerging opportunities. The state’s focus on developing local talent and fostering innovation is crucial in addressing these issues and maintaining its competitive edge.

Guillermo del Río president of the Asociación de la Industria Maquiladora y Manufacturera de Exportación (INDEX) Occidente emphasized the importance of adapting to these changes. “We need to calibrate our policies and incentives to support the evolving needs of the tech sector,” he stated. The new policy is a step in this direction, providing a framework for sustained growth and innovation.

The Jalisco Tech Hub Act 2.0 represents a significant milestone in the state’s journey towards becoming a global tech leader. By placing the private sector at the forefront of policy-making and fostering collaboration between the government and industry, Jalisco is poised to achieve its ambitious goals and solidify its position as a hub of innovation and talent.
