Discover the Exciting Upcoming Events at GCIT: Join Us for an Engaging Experience!

GCIT is currently vibrant with activities and significant announcements that concern all students and staff members. From cheerleading meetings to community outreach initiatives, numerous events are unfolding this month. This article will focus on key events, opportunities for involvement, and ways to support our community.

Important meetings and community service initiatives

Attention all sophomore Powderpuff cheerleaders (boys)! A crucial meeting is scheduled for Thursday from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM in Mrs. DeVito’s room 263. The agenda is straightforward: we aim to finalize the practice schedule.

In addition to cheerleading news, the GCIT Drama Department is launching a campaign for the Food Bank of South Jersey from October 1 to November 1. Students are encouraged to donate canned goods, which can be placed in designated boxes throughout the school. Members of Thespian Troupe 5480 must contribute a minimum of 10 cans to participate in the upcoming competition in January. Furthermore, students involved in the Student Council can earn one hour of community service for every five cans donated. Canned goods for the Student Council should be delivered to Mr. Wenzel’s room 314, Mrs. Yanni’s room 209, or Mrs. DeVito’s room, where teachers will verify donations for credit.

Exciting events to participate in

Mark your calendars for our highly anticipated 5th Annual Trunk or Treat event! This festive gathering promises an afternoon filled with Halloween fun, candy, and crafts. Scheduled for Saturday, October 25, from 4 PM to 6:30 PM at GCIT, the event invites everyone to partake in the spooky festivities. Entry for trick-or-treaters is just $5, and participants who sponsor a trunk can earn NHS service hours. For further details, interested participants should see Mr. Wenzel or sign up via the QR code posted on the GCIT website and digital displays around the school.

Support breast cancer awareness

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, all students are encouraged to wear pink on Friday, October 24, as part of HOSA’s Pink Out Day. This initiative aims to raise awareness and show support for individuals affected by this disease. Let’s fill our halls with a vibrant wave of pink!

Additionally, the Key Club will be selling Breast Cancer Awareness ribbons during lunch for just one dollar. All proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and wearing a ribbon on your lanyard is a great way to demonstrate your support.

Upcoming auditions and sports registration

For those interested in the performing arts, auditions for the school-wide musical, The Prom, are set for Monday, November 17. All relevant audition details can be found on the School Wide Musical Teams Page or on the callboard outside room 405. Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Ms. Knoblock via Teams.

On the academic front, registration for RCSJ winter and spring courses opens on Monday, October 20. If you are considering enrolling in a college-level course, please visit Mr. Burns in Guidance for assistance. Seniors should particularly take note, especially if they are on track to earn their Associate’s degree in the spring.

In sports, today’s schedule features multiple exciting competitions. The boys’ varsity and JV cross country teams will be competing against Cumberland, with the boys’ race starting at 4:15 PM, followed by the girls’ teams at 4:45 PM.
