On October 13, BYD unveiled the Great Han, the first fully electric D-segment flagship sedan in its Dynasty line-up. In the span of just 19 days, the model amassed 4,000 deliveries, a pace that suggests it could easily surpass 10,000 units in its first full month. The rapid uptake reflects a broader surge for BYD, which moved more than 300,000 electric vehicles in the prior month and posted a 6% year-over-year increase through October, reaching 1,953,700 total sales.
Sales momentum and market positioning
The Great Han is priced from 235,900 yuan (around $35,000), positioning it just above the 250,000-yuan threshold that defines the mid-to-high-end sedan segment in China. BYD claims the car delivers “class-beating high value” and targets buyers seeking premium features without a luxury-brand price tag. Early figures show the sedan resonating with that audience, as 4,000 units were sold in under three weeks, a rate that could translate to double-digit monthly deliveries. The model joins the Great Tang SUV, which recorded 14,000 sales in October, reinforcing BYD’s momentum across both sedan and SUV categories.
Powertrain, battery and charging technology
All three trims of the Great Han share a 102.326 kWh Blade 2.0 battery pack, the second-generation incarnation of BYD’s hallmark energy storage solution. The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Premium version houses a single 370 kW (496 hp) motor, delivering a claimed CLTC range of up to 1,008 km (626 mi). The all-wheel-drive (AWD) Flagship adds a 200 kW (268 hp) front motor, boosting total output to 570 kW (764 hp) while offering a slightly lower range of 880 km (546 mi).
What truly differentiates the Great Han is its Flash Charging capability. Using the second-gen Blade Battery, the pack can climb from 10 % to 70 % state-of-charge in a mere five minutes, and a full 10 %-to-97 % charge is achievable in nine minutes. This ultra-fast charging benchmark places the sedan among the quickest EVs available on the market today.
Dimensions, driver-assist suite and premium equipment
With a length of 5,256 mm, width of 1,999 mm, height of 1,510 mm and a 3,130 mm wheelbase, the Great Han is marginally larger than the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air, edging closer to the long-wheel-base Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Inside, BYD equips every variant with a roof-mounted LiDAR and the upgraded God’s Eye B advanced driver-assistance system. Features include Navigate on Autopilot for both highway and urban environments, as well as remote autonomous parking.
Standard luxuries comprise the DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension, rear-wheel steering for improved maneuverability, and front seats with a zero-gravity mode designed to reduce fatigue on long journeys. Collectively, these technologies aim to position the Great Han as a compelling alternative to established premium sedans while leveraging BYD’s cost-effective electric platform.
