On 1 April 2027, Hitachi Ltd. will officially unveil Hitachi Digital, a freshly-minted global services company created by fusing its two U.S. subsidiaries, GlobalLogic Inc. and Hitachi Digital Services LLC. The announcement, made earlier this month, marks the culmination of a year-long integration plan that aims to deliver end-to-end digital transformation for enterprises across multiple sectors. By consolidating product engineering, software development, and operational expertise under a single brand, Hitachi intends to present a unified front in the increasingly competitive AI-driven market.
The new entity is positioned as a one-stop partner for organizations seeking to overhaul legacy systems, adopt cloud infrastructure, and embed artificial intelligence into core processes. With a promise to blend cloud, data, and AI capabilities, Hitachi Digital will target more than 800 active clients, ranging from manufacturers to energy providers, helping them translate technology investments into tangible business outcomes.
Scale and global footprint
At launch, Hitachi Digital will employ roughly 35,000 professionals spread across 27 countries, making it one of the largest digitally-focused workforces in the sector. The talent pool combines GlobalLogic’s strength in digital engineering and design with Hitachi Digital Services’ deep knowledge of operational technology and enterprise systems. This geographic breadth gives the company the ability to support multinational customers on-site, while also leveraging time-zone advantages for round-the-clock service delivery. Existing client relationships, now numbering over 880, will be transferred to the new organization, preserving continuity and accelerating cross-sell opportunities.
AI-driven service portfolio
The service catalogue centers on four pillars: Physical AI, Data and Intelligence, Cloud and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Enterprise Applications. Physical AI refers to the integration of machine-learning models directly into manufacturing equipment, robotics, and energy infrastructure, enabling real-time optimization. To bring these capabilities to life, the company will deploy teams of Forward Deployed Engineers (specialists who embed within a client’s operational environment to implement and tune AI solutions). These engineers will work alongside data scientists and domain experts, ensuring that AI models are not only accurate but also robust enough for production-grade usage. Additionally, the firm will promote its next-generation platform, Lumada 3.0, as a foundation for co-creating AI-centric products with customers.
Strategic intent and industry impact
Leadership frames the merger as a strategic response to the growing demand for integrated digital partners that understand both the technology stack and the specific dynamics of heavy-industry sectors. Anand Birje, appointed CEO and chairman of the new unit, stresses that clients need a single ally capable of designing new digital products, modernising legacy back-ends, and keeping the resulting systems running reliably at scale. Jun Abe, Hitachi’s executive vice president for digital systems and services, adds that the combination of GlobalLogic’s engineering talent with Hitachi’s operational expertise and the FDE model will maximise value creation for customers. Industry analysts have already recognised the merged entity as a leader in intelligent robotics, Physical AI, and generative AI services, highlighting its differentiated ability to orchestrate AI across both the physical and digital realms.
Financially, the partnership has already shown promising signs, with synergy-related revenue growing 46% year-on-year in the first half of the fiscal year. The “customer zero” approach—where Hitachi Digital pilots its own AI solutions internally before exporting them to clients—further demonstrates confidence in the technology stack and provides a living testbed for continuous improvement. By consolidating brand identity, expanding the talent base, and sharpening its AI focus, Hitachi Digital is poised to become a cornerstone of the broader Hitachi Group’s digital vision, shaping the future of manufacturing, mobility, and energy through intelligent, data-driven operations.
