In the world of dual careers, Jade Bucci stands out as a remarkable example. By day, she is a strategy and operations professional at a New York City tech start-up. By night, she transforms into a dynamic cheerleader for the New England Patriots. This unique dual life has earned her the moniker of having a Hannah Montana-like existence, referencing the popular Disney Channel series.
Bucci’s journey began when she joined the Patriots cheerleading squad in April 2026, marking the start of her first full season with the team. As one of eight rookies, she has been diligently training with the squad’s thirty other members, learning intricate dance routines and participating in various promotional events. Her debut performance at the FIFA World Cup games held at Gillette Stadium was a highlight, followed by a photo shoot in Cancún, Mexico, for the squad’s annual “Resort Cheer” calendar.
From Dance to Tech and Back
Bucci’s preparation for this role has been a lifelong endeavor. Growing up in San Diego, she trained as a competitive dancer, mastering various styles such as contemporary dance, jazz, ballet, tap, and hip-hop. However, she temporarily set aside her dance career while pursuing a degree in computer science at Columbia University. During her time at Columbia, Bucci was actively involved in extracurricular activities, including serving as president of her sorority and participating in the Women’s Business Society.
After graduating in 2026, Bucci found herself with more free time and rekindled her passion for dance. A recommendation from a dance teacher led her to audition for the Patriots cheerleading squad. The flexibility of the role, which operates outside traditional work hours, was a significant draw for her. “What’s awesome about an NFL cheerleader role is that, while it’s a part-time position, we do everything outside of traditional work hours,” Bucci explains.
The Art of NFL Cheerleading
Unlike competitive cheerleading, which involves high-flying stunts and acrobatic tumbling tricks, NFL cheerleading is more of an entertainment spectacle. Bucci describes it as “spirited dance,” drawing influences from jazz, hip-hop, and commercial dance. The routines require a high level of technique, including pirouettes, leaps, and occasionally tumbling tricks for those with the skill set.
When not performing on the field, the cheerleaders act as community ambassadors for the Patriots franchise. They participate in various appearances, such as visiting elementary schools and attending career fairs. Many squad members, like Bucci, lead busy lives outside of cheerleading, balancing corporate jobs, teaching careers, and even pursuing postgraduate degrees.
Future Aspirations
Patriots cheerleaders must reaudition every year, and the maximum tenure on the squad is four years. Bucci plans to eventually transition out of cheerleading and continue her career in the tech world, possibly venturing into project management. “I’m really fortunate that I can pursue that and pursue this—there isn’t a lot of conflict with my time and energy,” she says. “Whatever’s meant to happen will happen, but I’m going to keep putting my best foot forward with cheer, and balance both paths as best I can.”
