The JustWatch Group is turning its well-known streaming guide into a full-blown streaming service. Dubbed JustWatch TV the platform arrives in twelve territories – the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand – and immediately offers a mix of free, ad-supported content, a low-cost ad-free tier and a transactional movie-rental store.
Content slate and tier structure
At launch, the service has secured 30 content partners. The roster includes heavyweight names such as Paramount and New Regency alongside independent studios like FremantleBleecker StreetVortex MediaCineverseLEONINE StudiosSND and Altitude. Quentin Carbonell, the SVP of Global Content Acquisitions, says the catalogue consists of “a few hundred titles across the board,” with regular rotations to keep the library fresh.
The offering is split into three distinct tiers. The baseline tier is ad-supported (AVOD) and provides a curated selection of movies and series at no cost. The premium option, JustWatch TV Plus removes ads for $3.99 per month (or a lifetime pass for $49.99) and adds advanced filtering, the ability to hide titles you’ve already watched, and priority access to new additions. Finally, a transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) store lets users rent titles for a short window; this feature is initially available in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
Pricing compared to rivals
With a $3.99 monthly price point, JustWatch TV Plus sits just above the $2.99 ad-free plans offered by services such as Roku’s Howdy, yet it bundles extra data-driven features that the company believes will justify the premium. Subscribers also receive a 10 % discount on rentals from the JustWatch TV Store.
Geographic rollout and user ambition
In each of the twelve launch markets, the content mix is adapted to local tastes. Carbonell notes that the U.S. lineup is the most extensive, while European territories benefit from deep partnerships with regional players like LEONINE Studios in Germany and SND in France. The service’s long-term goal is to reach 100 million monthly users a substantial increase from the 50 million people who already rely on the JustWatch guide for discovery.
David Croyé, founder and CEO of the JustWatch Group, explains the broader vision: “From the beginning, our vision was to create a single platform that directs fans to all of their entertainment options in one place.” He adds that JustWatch TV will “fill in the gaps” and make it easier for the massive audience to discover and watch hard-to-find titles directly within the app.
Advertising, data and the circular ecosystem
The new streamer is more than a content outlet; it is a data engine for the Group’s advertising arm, JustWatch Media. By integrating viewing behaviour from both the guide and the streaming service, the company can deliver deeper audience insights for campaigns on platforms such as YouTube, Meta and TikTok. The advertising business already leverages first-party data from the guide, which serves 50 million customers worldwide, to sell targeted ad inventory to studios, distributors and other streaming platforms.
Carbonell sums up the strategic fit: “By having our own service with titles to watch directly on JustWatch TV, we can grow our already massive audience, while continuing to direct them to all our streaming partners.” This creates a “circular economy” where the guide drives users to the service, the service enriches data for advertisers, and advertisers fund further content acquisition.
Its blend of free, low-cost and rental options, combined with a data-rich advertising model, aims to simplify the fragmented streaming landscape for both viewers and content owners.
