In the past few months, a wave of capital has surged into the continent’s nascent space sector. Companies ranging from launch vehicle builders to orbital-data providers have announced financing that collectively tops several hundred million euros, a clear signal that Europe is intent on building a competitive alternative to the United States’ dominant players.

Among the headline deals, Open Cosmos disclosed a €300 million round aimed at extending European satellite infrastructure and delivering real-time intelligence services. The Spanish firm, which has already flown missions with SpaceX, Rocket Lab and Arianespace, emphasized that the round was heavily oversubscribed and that the new cash will fund a broader constellation and stronger connectivity across the continent.

Other notable inflows include The Exploration Company’s $450 million Series C, Spain’s PLD Space adding €108 million to bring its Series C to €288 million, and Germany’s HyImpulse extending its Series A with over €50 million. In a joint venture, Marlan Space and Loft Orbital revealed a $1 billion plan to launch a 50-satellite, AI-enabled constellation with French AI specialist Mistral as a partner. Even Amazon’s Leo program booked six additional Arianespace launches, underscoring the growing appetite for European lift services.

Europe’s launch ecosystem is also gaining operational milestones. Germany’s Isar Aerospace became the first commercial European company to place satellites in orbit and earlier this year raised €270 million to expand manufacturing and secure more launch sites. By contrast, U.S. newcomer Stoke Space closed a $1 billion raise for its reusable Nova vehicle, illustrating the funding gap: the OECD reports that 67 % of private space investment in 2025 went to the United States versus only 12.8 % to Europe. Public budgets echo the disparity, with a U.S. space budget of roughly $77 billion in 2024—about five times the combined European allocation.

Across the Atlantic, LA-based Orbital announced an exclusive design-and-development partnership with German satellite manufacturer Reflex Aerospace. Reflex will supply the flight-tested bus—the “brain” of the spacecraft—allowing Orbital’s engineers to concentrate on a high-performance compute payload slated for a 2028 launch. Each Orbital-1 unit will carry a stack of GPUs capable of supporting a full Nvidia Vera Rubin rack, cooled by space-based radiators and powered by large solar arrays delivering up to 250 kW, a figure that matches the benchmark set by SpaceX’s AI-1 demonstrator.

The collaboration, brokered by a shared investor, also marks Reflex’s first U.S. customer, highlighting a deliberately global supply chain that will later involve Southeast Asian manufacturers. Orbital’s strategy hinges on cost-effective production: using commercial-grade silicon solar cells, automotive-style mass-assembly lines, and a design that is not dependent on any single launch provider, though the company hopes to secure rides on SpaceX’s Starship when economically viable.

What the financing wave means for the European space ecosystem

These financing milestones and cross-border partnerships suggest that Europe is moving from a fragmented collection of niche players toward a more integrated, vertically-linked industry. Winners will likely be those who can combine reliable launch capacity, scalable satellite manufacturing, and robust commercial contracts—especially in the burgeoning market for on-orbit data processing.

Investors should watch how quickly the announced funds translate into operational capacity. The ability to deliver recurring revenue from satellite services, secure launch slots, and navigate a policy environment where national agendas sometimes clash with pan-European coordination will determine which firms become the continent’s next space champions.
