The laptop’s sleek, thin chassis and efficient RGB keyboard add to its appeal. However, the real story lies beneath the surface, where thermal limitations begin to tell.
Aesthetics and Build Quality
The Helios Neo 16S AI’s design is a standout feature. The thin bezel surrounding the OLED display maximizes screen real estate, while the slim profile makes it surprisingly portable for a high-end gaming laptop. The laptop’s build quality is solid, with a metallic finish that gives it a premium look and feel. The keyboard is responsive and comfortable for long gaming sessions, and the touchpad is large and precise.

During benchmark tests, the laptop’s CPU and GPU temperatures quickly rise, leading to thermal throttling. This results in lower clock speeds and reduced performance especially in CPU-bound games. For example, in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p resolution the Helios Neo 16S AI achieves an average of 48 FPS which is significantly lower than competitors like the Lenovo Legion 9i Gen 10 which achieves 68 FPS under the same conditions.
The issue lies in the laptop’s thermal management. The cooling system is unable to dissipate heat efficiently, causing the CPU and GPU to throttle. This is evident in the Metro Exodus benchmark, where the GPU power draw averages 66W far below its 115W potential.
