Amazon’s accelerator targets low-carbon materials and circular tech

Amazon’s new accelerator promises to fast‑track climate‑focused tech across devices, cloud and private‑brand lines.

Amazon’s accelerator targets low-carbon materials and circular tech

Amazon continues to embed sustainability into its core strategy, aiming to meet The Climate Pledge target of net-zero emissions by 2040. Recognising that incremental improvements are insufficient, the company is turning to breakthrough innovations that can overhaul entire value chains. To that end, Amazon has introduced the Sustainability Deep Tech Accelerator, a programme that gives emerging climate-focused startups a direct route to the company’s massive product and infrastructure ecosystems.

Program expansion and scope

The new accelerator builds on the 2025 Devices Climate Tech Accelerator, which paired pioneering decarbonisation firms with Amazon Devices during a six-month assessment. After two successful cohorts involving 28 companies, Amazon widened the framework to include AWS and Amazon Private Brands. The offering is equity-free, meaning participants keep full ownership of their inventions. Selected innovators receive up to $100,000 in AWS Activate Credits, hands-on mentorship, and the chance to present a tailored integration proposal directly to senior leaders who can approve deployment across the three business units.

Key technology themes

The accelerator concentrates on three interlocking pillars: low-carbon materials and advanced manufacturing, energy efficiency, and circularity. Solutions that shrink the carbon footprint of semiconductors, printed circuit boards, batteries, displays, accessories and packaging fall under the first pillar. AWS is looking for designs that make cloud-hardware more reusable and that optimise end-of-life material recovery. Private Brands seeks substitutes for conventional plastics, polymers and textiles that cut embodied emissions. Energy-efficiency projects target thermal and power-management advances that lower operational emissions, while circularity proposals focus on recovery, reuse and extended-life strategies for critical components.

How innovators can join

Start-ups and research groups submit a brief outlining their technology, readiness level and how it aligns with Amazon’s product roadmaps. If the initial screen passes, a six-month pilot phase begins, during which participants work with technical teams across Devices, AWS and Private Brands to refine integration pathways. At the end of the cycle, innovators pitch their final proposal to an executive panel. Successful pitches may evolve into supply contracts, licensing deals, joint development programmes, or even direct investment, depending on the mutual business fit.

Timeline and next steps

Applications open in January 2027. Companies interested in accelerating their climate solutions can join the interest list now to receive updates when the portal launches. Detailed eligibility criteria, program milestones and the online submission form are hosted on Amazon’s sustainability portal. By funneling diverse, high-impact technologies through a single, coordinated gateway, the accelerator aims to remove the traditional bottlenecks that keep promising climate tech from reaching enterprise scale.
