Hyundai and Kia Achieve Record July Sales in the US

Hyundai and Kia continue their record-breaking streak in the US, with July 2026 sales reaching new heights, fueled by the growing demand for hybrid vehicles.

Hyundai and Kia Achieve Record July Sales in the US

The automotive industry is witnessing a significant shift, with Hyundai and Kia leading the charge in the US market. In July 2026, these Korean automakers achieved record sales, driven by a surge in demand for electrified vehicles including hybrids and electric models.

As more consumers opt for eco-friendly transportation, Hyundai and Kia are capitalizing on this trend, expanding their lineup of hybrid and electric vehicles to meet the growing demand. This strategic move has resulted in impressive sales figures, solidifying their position in the competitive US automotive market.

Record-Breaking Sales Figures

In July 2026, Hyundai sold 82,480 vehicles in the US, marking a 4% increase and setting a new record for the month. Kia followed closely with 75,867 units sold, also achieving a new July sales record. These figures highlight the strong consumer interest in Hyundai and Kia’s diverse lineup, which includes sedans, SUVs, and electrified models.

The success of these automakers can be attributed to their expanding range of hybrid vehicles. Hyundai’s hybrid sales surged by 35% compared to July 2026, with models like the Sonata HEVElantra HEV and Tucson HEV setting new sales records. Similarly, Kia’s hybrid sales experienced a remarkable 108% increase with the Sportage HybridCarnival Hybrid and Sorento leading the charge.

The Rise of Electrified Vehicles

While hybrid vehicles are driving growth, the Electric vehicle (EV) segment has seen a decline. Hyundai’s best-selling EV, the IONIQ 5 experienced a 38% drop in sales, with only 3,636 units sold in July. Year-to-date, IONIQ 5 sales are down 2% with 34,366 units sold. Similarly, the IONIQ 9 saw a 35% decrease in sales, with 700 units sold last month. However, year-to-date sales are up 166% with 5,558 units sold.

Kia also faced a decline in EV sales, with the EV6 down approximately 34% year-to-date. Despite this, the IONIQ 9 sales are up around 30% this year, with 8,685 units sold. These figures indicate a shift in consumer preferences, with hybrids gaining traction while EVs face challenges.

Future Prospects and Market Trends

Looking ahead, Kia is poised to launch the EV3 a smaller and more affordable electric SUV. Expected to hit the market later this year, the EV3 has already gained popularity in Europe and other overseas markets. With an anticipated starting price of around $35,000 the EV3 is set to attract a broader range of consumers.

Eric Watson, vice president of Kia America sales, expressed optimism about the company’s future prospects. He noted, “Kia’s momentum continues to increase as we see widespread interest in a variety of models across our entire lineup, from sedans to SUVs, to hybrids and all-electric powertrains.” With the new Seltos now in showrooms and strong demand for the redesigned Telluride Kia is well-positioned to continue setting records in the second half of the year.

The automotive industry is evolving rapidly, with electrified vehicles playing a pivotal role. As Hyundai and Kia continue to innovate and expand their electrified lineup, they are well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for eco-friendly transportation. With record-breaking sales and a focus on hybrid and electric models, these automakers are shaping the future of the US automotive market.
