The gaming world is abuzz with the unveiling of the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ at Computex 2026. This latest addition to the MSI Claw series is the first to feature Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme processor, promising a significant boost in performance over its predecessor, the Core Ultra 7 model. With a focus on portable gaming, this handheld aims to set new standards in the industry.

At Computex 2026, PCWorld‘s Adam Patrick Murray had the opportunity to get an up-close look at the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+. The device appears nearly identical to its predecessor but packs a powerful punch with the new processor. Murray also had the chance to speak with MSI System Product Management Director Cliff Chun, who provided insights into the performance upgrades and optimizations made for the new model.

The Power Behind the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+

The Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor is the heart of the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+. This new chip is designed to deliver superior gaming performance, making it a formidable contender in the portable gaming market. The processor supports XeSS 3 Multi-Frame Generation, which enhances frame rates and overall gaming experience. However, the impact on battery life remains a critical factor that will require real-world testing.

Performance and Compatibility

The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ is not just about raw power; it also offers out-of-the-box compatibility with Windows 11’s new Xbox Mode. This feature, formerly known as Xbox FSE, allows for quick resume functionality and on-the-fly adjustments, enhancing the gaming experience. Additionally, the device boasts improved power efficiency and better haptic feedback compared to its predecessor.

Design and Ergonomics

MSI has made significant improvements to the design and ergonomics of the Claw 8 EX AI+. The device now features gamepad-style grips, inspired by the Asus ROG Ally X. These grips include Hall Effect sticks and triggers, as well as a revised D-pad. The device also sports a purple aesthetic with red face buttons and RGB lighting around the sticks, giving it a distinctive look.

Key Features and Specifications

The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ comes with a range of impressive specifications. It features an 8-inch 1080p VRR IPS screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, providing a smooth and immersive gaming experience. The device supports up to 32GB LPDDR5X memory and includes Intel Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth v6 for seamless connectivity. Additionally, it supports full-sized M.2-2280 NVMe Gen 4 SSDs, making upgrades easier and more affordable.

Battery and Connectivity

The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ retains the 80 Whr battery from its predecessor, which was praised for its strong battery life. The device also maintains dual Thunderbolt 4 ports up top, making it ideal for use with an eGPU when docked to a larger desktop setup. A microSD card reader is also included for storage expansion.

Pricing and Availability

The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ is priced at $1500 and is set to launch on June 23. While the pricing of other configurations has yet to be clarified, the device offers a compelling alternative to other high-end handhelds in the market. It is expected to compete with devices based on the AMD Z2 Extreme and AMD AI Max+ 395 chips, which often exceed $2000.

As the gaming handheld market continues to evolve, the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ stands out as a powerful and innovative option. With its advanced features and impressive specifications, it is poised to make a significant impact in the world of portable gaming.
